Ferrari 246 GT Dino-a pretty car

The young son of  Enzo Ferrari died in 1956. Because of this  most famous engines were named Dino. The Dino road car evolved through different models on the racetracks of the world. The Dino 2066T was presented  in 1967 This was  the first of the company’s road cars to feature an engine amidships. Surprisingly,  there was no Ferrari symbol to be seen, only  the good familiar yellow-backed Dino sign.  The car was very pretty with its pointed nose and a body sweeping back over the sharply slant­ing windscreen, back over the roof and down to the vertical reverse curved rear

window. The back was flat and dropped sharply at the rear. Two large air intakes were positioned just  behind the doors. The aim was to feed air into the rear engine compartment and to keep the engine cool.  Made by hand at the Scaglietti works bodywowork was with aluminium alloy.

Fiat built theV6 engines and had  the opportunity to use it in several of their own cars too. To save space the engine of the Dino was placed at an angle in the rear of the car. There was enough room for a small lug­gage area just behind the engine. Instrumentation, rev counter, speed, oil gauge, water gauge and even a clock were inside the cabin just in front of the driver. To the left there are heater controls and the now  gateshift gearchange on the central tunnel. The 246GT Dino made its debute in 1969. It was different from the 206 in several areas. For example:the engine blocks were made of cast iron rather than alloy. The light alloy bodywork was replaced by a thin steel body. Changes to the height and other dimensions were made along with a slightly enlarged fuel tank. The 246 GT Dino was shown at the Geneva Motor Show. An interesting fact is that the car was  with an open topTarga style roof.It could be removed and stowed behind the seats. The reason for stopping the production of the car in 1974 is unknown.
